When "self‑medication" quietly becomes addiction

As human beings we naturally shy away from pain and turn towards pleasure. Pain makes us feel afraid, sad and alone, and that can pull us into denial, building a false self that doesn't feel the hurt. As we lose sight of who we really are, we believe more and more in the protection that false self seems to offer, and the self‑medicating accelerates.

We commit to what we believe keeps us safe, even though it's actually hurting us. Instead of healing the wound, it deepens it.

If you're facing substance‑use issues, I'm here to offer empathetic, non‑judgemental help to tackle the root causes and move on. Stop fighting yourself, turn towards your true self, befriend it, and make it safe to be the real you again.

Counselling for drinking problems

Turning the light back on

When we lose sight of our true selves, confusion reigns. Our substance of choice seems to clear up the confusion, but all it really does is turn off the light. Years of habitual medicating distances us from any other way of being and locks us into a pattern we feel powerless to change.

In our sessions we take an integrative approach, viewing your "problems in living" from an existential, humanistic perspective. That means we accept that you are the expert on yourself. With support, you can find yourself again, without the anaesthetic you've grown accustomed to using to numb the pain.

Addiction counselling & therapy

Change your thinking, and your feelings follow

Using substances creates a cycle of dependency and confusion. Counselling helps you understand and shed the false persona of addiction so you can embrace your true self. It won't be instant, but it will be worth it.

How it works

Take the steps to recovery

There are various therapy options to help you understand what caused your addiction, and to build a recovery plan that lasts.

01

Take the first step

Book a consultation or call me on 07914 681995. That first contact is often the hardest, and the most important.

02

Choose how we meet

In‑person in Hove, by phone, or by secure video, whichever feels most comfortable for you.

03

Book a consultation

Share as much, or as little, as you feel safe and comfortable to. Therapy will gently tease out the rest.

04

Begin turning your life around

With repetition and reinforcement at the right pace for you, freedom from the patterns that hold you is possible.

Fit the therapy to you, not you to the therapy

Let's explore your story: how you got to where you are, and where you actually want to be. I can help. How much remains to be seen, but I can help.
