Online Substance Use Counselling · Leeds
Online substance use counselling for Leeds, by secure video, wherever you are. You don't have to leave home, or even leave your own room, to begin. Online substance use counselling brings a BACP-registered counsellor to you in Leeds, at a time that genuinely works around your week.
Across Leeds, from the centre and the waterfront to Headingley, Chapeltown, Armley and Roundhay, and from the streets around the arcades, the waterfront and the universities, online substance use counselling takes the logistics out of getting help: no commute, no waiting room, and the focus kept where it belongs, on you.
Although my practice sits on the Sussex coast in Hove, distance is no obstacle. People in Leeds work with me online and receive exactly the same specialist, confidential support as anyone who walks through the door.
I also work online with people elsewhere in Yorkshire & North East, including Bradford, Wakefield, Sheffield.
If you would still prefer to meet in person and can travel to the Sussex coast, you are welcome to, but for most clients in Leeds online substance use counselling is the natural and effective choice.
Life in Leeds
Leeds is the financial and cultural capital of West Yorkshire, a fast-growing city of finance, law and two big universities. The pace of professional life, rising costs and the gap between its prosperous and its struggling neighbourhoods all take a toll, and the busy centre can hide a great deal of private strain.
When so much of the week is spent travelling to and from work, finding time for yourself can feel impossible. Online counselling gives that hour back, without adding another trip to the day.
What I help with
Confidential support for any kind of substance use.
Letting go of the protective self that no longer serves you.
One-to-one sessions shaped entirely around you.
Rediscovering the authentic self beneath the coping.
Treating what the substance has been masking.
Growing into recovery rather than forcing it.
Why online works in Leeds
Sessions flex around the academic calendar and shift work, so support holds steady through the busiest weeks.
If you move, travel for work or split your time between places, online counselling carries on uninterrupted wherever you happen to be.
From Leeds, there's no journey across town and no waiting room. You join from wherever feels safe, and the rest of your day simply carries on around the session.
Working online means people in Leeds aren't limited to whoever practises locally. You can choose the counsellor who genuinely fits the issue you're facing, not just the nearest one.
Here's what actually happens once we begin. My approach is integrative and humanistic, starting from a simple premise: you are the expert on yourself. With support you can find yourself again, without the anaesthetic, working at a pace that always protects your sense of safety.
You don't need any special software, just a private space, a device with a camera and a decent connection. We always start with a free fifteen-minute call, and from then on you simply click a secure link at the time we've set.

Start the conversationMy online counselling sits alongside the help available locally, and it can be worth knowing what else is there. In Leeds, you can refer yourself directly to Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service for free NHS talking therapy, with no GP referral needed. You can also find your nearest service through the NHS Talking Therapies finder.
Private sessions with me usually mean you can start sooner, stay with the same counsellor throughout, and work at greater depth and pace; the two can run side by side, and I'm glad to work alongside any NHS or GP support you already have.
This practice is not a crisis service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999.
For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option. The Samaritans are free, day or night, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258.
Leeds questions
Absolutely. Leeds is well within reach, because we meet by secure video rather than in person. You'll get exactly the same specialist support as someone sitting in my Hove room.
Very little: a private space where you won't be interrupted, a laptop, tablet or phone, and a reasonable internet connection. After a free fifteen-minute call, I send a secure link you click at our agreed time.
Online and in-person therapy are similarly effective for most people, and clients usually settle quickly once the screen fades into the background and the conversation takes over.
Yes, and many people do both. You can access support from Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service alongside our work; private counselling simply means you can usually start sooner and stay with the same counsellor throughout. I'm happy to work alongside any NHS support you're receiving.
A free fifteen-minute consultation is the easiest place to start. No commitment, just a chance for both of us to see if this feels right for you in Leeds.
